Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
Understand the basic principles of Dynamics (correlation between forces acting on a mechanical system and its motion).
Apply these principles, in a rigorous and rational modelling process, in the context of industrial or every day life examples (resonance, balancing, gyroscopic effects,...).
Strengthen the intuition with respect to problems involving the relation between forces and motion.
Content of UE
Kinetics of rigid body; d'Alembert's principle; general theorems of Dynamics. One or two degree of freedom vibrating systems: free or forced response, resonance, frequency response. Dynamics of rigid body: balancing, gyroscopic effects.
Prior Experience
Trigonometry; planar and space geometry; Algebra: resolution of a set of linear equations, matrix calculus, eigenvalues and eigenvectors; differential calculus: resolution of differential equations, Laplace transform; theoretical Mechanics: Kinematics and Statics of Mechanical Systems.
Type of Assessment for UE in Q1
Q1 UE Assessment Comments
Exercise test of November: 20 % of the mark
Laboratory reports: 10% of the mark
Written examination: 70% of the mark
Type of Assessment for UE in Q3
Q3 UE Assessment Comments
Written examination: 100 % of the mark.
The examination consists of a theory question and two or three exercises. For the theory, the students are allowed to consult their course notes (without writing) during 10 minutes, after reception of the question.
