Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
At the end of this learning activities, students will be able to:
- read and understand relatively long and complex pieces of writing, capturing subtle nuances in style and meaning, both implicit and explicit;
- follow a lecture or exposé on a specialized topic using regional, familiar or idiomatic language as well as unfamiliar vocabulary; subsequently, produce a clear and succinct outline;
- produce a clear, well-structured argument, oral or written, on a complex subject;
- argue a point of view using secondary arguments, justifications and examples.
They should be able to:
- translate specialized texts in the fields considered with a high degree of proficiency as to the style and the content;
- choose the appropriate terms as to ensure their translation is fit for publication without an over-lengthy revision by a specialist of the field;
- warrant their terminological and stylistic choices;
- use common CAT tools.
They will also be able to:
- translate in writing complex texts in the field of international institutions;
- summarize or reformulate orally and in French short speeches/conversations dealing with these subjects;
- with recognized knowledge of these institutions and after due documentary and terminological research.
Content of UE
Critical reading and discussion of aural or written, structurally complex documents on abstract or specialized subjects (professional or academic context).
Translation of texts on legal / political and scientific / technological / economic subjects.
Practical sessions with use of the appropriate office automation and computer tools such as word processing and specialized databases.
Written translation of texts in the field of international institutions.
Synthesis and reformulation of oral messages in French, in a context of linguistic mediation. Activities involving reception : level C2 of the Common European Framework.
Activities involving production : level C1 for the foreign language, C2 for French.
