Course Outline
1. Take into account the experience of the inhabitants after completion
Continue the follow up done in the first term, as part of a social housing and a prevention service, students will continue their immersion work with the residents of a revitalized neighborhood. They will draw conclusions about what is important (and counter-productive) for the people in the construction / renovation of housing suitable adapted to living standards. Students will be in direct contact with the professionals responsible for the project and interact with them.
2. Question the issues of housing in social and intercultural context
The changing aspirations of individuals, socio-cultural codes, norms of gender and family structure calls for the adaptation housing. Furthermore, constructions themselves can influence behaviour and representations. These interactions will be observed and qualified through the presentation of surveys conducted by the teacher on a regional, a neighborhood and or construction scale. The first in a French suburb, known for mass housing. The second in a housing estate in Hainaut, where single parent families are over-represented. The third explores the mixed constructions built on different immersion sites. At these levels, the course will question the housing policies and their impact on identity, family and social lives.
