Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
Power Electronics (Part 1): Understand the operation of the main static power converters (including their control) and exploit their electrical characteristics. Identify the different commutation modes of the power switches. Learn the various industrial applications of these converters.
Power Electronics (Part 2): Deepen knowledge on the main power converters. Understand the operation principle of the main isolated power converters. Being able to identify the basic elements of a power electronic conversion structure (a priori unknown) and conduct its analytic study (including power losses calculation).
Content of UE
Power Electronics (Part 1): semiconductor power components: diode, thyristor, fully-controlled components; self-commutated converters: basic circuits, bridge circuits, inverter operation, voltage quality; choppers: step-down, step-up and buck-boost, continuous / discontinuous conduction modes, H-bridge; inverters: basic concepts, three-phase VSI, PWM and square-wave switching schemes.
Power Electronics (Part 2): basic elements of static power converters (switch and source concepts); switch-mode power supplies; complements on inverters; resonant power converters; power losses calculation in static converters.

Type of Assessment for UE in Q1
Q1 UE Assessment Comments
A single (global) score is attributed for the two learning activities (AA). Practical work reports (weighting: 10% of the global score). Marked exercise (weighting: 20%, duration: 2 hours). Written examination on both AA (weighting: 70%, maximum duration: 3 hours). The examination consists of questions of theory on all the matter to determine if the student has a general overview of the course and if he masters it.
Type of Assessment for UE in Q3
Q3 UE Assessment Comments
A single (global) score is attributed for the two learning activities (AA). Practical work reports (weighting: 10% of the score). The mark obtained in Q1 is automatically reported. Written examination on both AA (weighting: 90% of the score, maximum duration: 3 hours). The examination consists of questions of theory and exercices on all the matter to determine if the student has a general overview of the course and if he masters it.
