Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
The course aims at providing students with a deeper understanding of competition, product differentiation, organisational structures in industrial markets. Both theoretical modelling as well as intuitive interpretations in concrete situations are thought.
Content of UE
Monopolies and anti-trust policy, monopsone competition, duopolistic competition (Cournot, Stackelberg, Bertrand),
price differentiation models, strategic interaction and problems of double monopolistic margins in the context of outsourcing, innovation policies, network economics (Airbnb, Uber), different market failures and their remedies.
Prior Experience
General concepts of micro-economics: game theory, asymmetric information, market efficiency are required. Basic mathematical insights such as linear, quadratic and logarithmic functions, their derivatives and systems of equations.
