Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
master the basics of the presented geophysical methods and the principals of operation of current instruments; master the basics of processing and interpretation methods in applied geophysics; estimate the possibilities and the limits of these methods in the framework of various applications; interpret geophysical results in their geological context.
Content of UE
lectures : Gravimetric, magnetic, electric, electromagnetic, radiometric and seismic methods in applied geophysics as well as main downhole logging tools; acquisition equipment; processing and interpretation methods; case studies in mining and oil prospection, civil engineering, hydrogeology and environmental applications; Laboratory work : preparation of field camp, processing and interpretation of data collected during the field camp, writing a common report. Fieldwork (~5 days) : small group practice of various methods of applied geophysics in a field camp setting.
Prior Experience
notions of physics and geology
Type of Assessment for UE in Q2
Q2 UE Assessment Comments
Oral examination during the regular examination period without class notes or laboratory notes. Evaluation on all of the material.
Each student draws the first question dealing with knowledge and understanding of notions explained during the lectures. Each student gives a presentation on his answer (prior written preparation of maximum 30 minutes) and replies to oral questions on this presentation.
There is a second question on the field camp report.
Evaluation : laboratory work and field camp evaluation: 30% of the mark; exam 1st question: 50% of the mark; exam 2nd question: 20% of the mark.
