Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Master communication techniques.
    • Communicate, both orally and in writing, their findings, original proposals, knowledge and underlying principles, in a clear, structured and justified manner.
    • Adapt their communication to a variety of audiences.
    • Where possible, communicate in a foreign language.
  • Develop and integrate a high degree of autonomy.

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of this course students should be able to read and understand B2 level texts or recordings related to their field of specialisation. They should be able to analyse the key arguments in these sources.
They should also be able to express in English an opinion on a topical or computer science related subject, both orally and in writing; discuss and argue on a topical or computer science related subject.
They should be able to learn to exchange and listen to ideas, to be able to reformulate them without distorting them at a B2 level
They need to be able to make good use of tools and websites to further develop their English language skills.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

This is a 30-hour course divided into: 
>> 2 or 3 face-to-face 3-hour sessions in Charleroi
>> 12 or 15 hours of online class time (TEAMS/ZOOM)
>> 9 hours of online tests and tasks/assignments, participation in FORUMS/APPS/PROJECTS indicated by the teacher
- vocabulary and grammar exercises
- reading (texts related to IT sciences)
- listening exercises (audio and video)
- writing and speaking exercises
-using IT tools and the Internet (wiki, blogs, skype, plateformes et sites d'e-learning), either individually or in a team
The course will be given online and face-to-face.

If the student passes the pre-course test, he/she gets dispensation from the said course. The mark given on the pre-course test will be converted to meet the level of the final examination/ evaluation, as productive skills cannot be extensively tested. 
Students will be tested on: 
- listening and reading skills
- knowledge and use of grammar and vocabulary
- writing skills (summarizing/giving one's opinion on a given topic)

100% of the overall mark will be distributed as follows: 
1) 50% given for assignment-based oral examination. To gain access to the oral examination, students must hand in their assignments.
2) 50% given for class-based grammar and vocab content as well as listening/reading comprehension exercises
