Learning Outcomes of UE

The learning outcomes are those required for recognition of the legal training of "Maître d'expérience", corresponding in the Belgian law to the FELASA Category C -persons responsible for directing animal experiments.  

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

The teaching unit is composed of AA for theoretical and practical teachings, as well as personal work describing the optimization of the housing conditions of a specified animal species and a second task consisting of preparing an application for experimental authorization from the animal welfare committee for experimentation. Legal and ethical aspects, refinement and alternatives to animal use; biology of the laboratory animals (taxonomy, anatomy, physiology, ethology, nutrition, husbandry); genetics and reproduction (cloning and transgenesis included); microbiology and laboratory animal disease; health hazards and safe practices, euthanasia, autopsy and waste management, design and conduct of animal experiments.
 

Prior Experience

Completion of a full university degree.
