Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • In the field of biological sciences and particularly in the field of the biology of organisms and ecology, possess highly specialised and integrated knowledge and a wide range of skills adding to those covered in the Bachelor's programme in biological sciences.
  • Develop and integrate a high degree of autonomy.
    • Aquire new knowledge independently.
    • Pursue further training and develop new skills independently.
    • Develop and integrate a high degree of autonomy to evolve in new contexts.

Learning Outcomes of UE

The first aim of the lecture is to familiarize students with the databases concepts in the context of biogeographic data. They must be able to design and operate a simple relational database thanks to the SQL language.
The second aim is to familiarize them with the main concepts of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), including spatial concepts. They must be able to use the main functions of a GIS software.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

Covered contents :
 1) Properties of biogeographic data
2) Introduction to Databases Management Systems (conceptual model, relational model, main concepts, SQL Language)
3) Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (definitions, uses, spatial modeling representation, coordinates systems, using QGis).
4) Practical exercices
