Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
This course introduces current subjects in the field of micro- and nanophotonics. The objective is to apply the concepts of optics to structures with features smaller than the wavelength. Thus we study devices and applications of integrated optics. Furthermore the specific optical behaviour of metals (plasmonics) and periodic devices (photonic crystals) is explained. We focus on the theoretical concepts and numerical modeling. At the end of the course students are able to comprehend the actual literature to a large extent, and start their own research.
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
Waveguides, plasmonics, photonic crystals, numerical modeling.
Prior Experience
Electromagnetism
