Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Master communication techniques.
    • Communicate, both orally and in writing, their findings, original proposals, knowledge and underlying principles, in a clear, structured and justified manner.
    • Adapt their communication to a variety of audiences.
    • Where possible, communicate in a foreign language.

Learning Outcomes of UE

By the end of this course students should be able to read and understand texts or recordings at B1+ level relevant to their field of specialisation. They should be able to analyse the key arguments in these sources.
They should also be able to :
express in English an opinion on a topical or computer science-related subject, both orally and in writing;
discuss and argue on a topical or computer science-related subject.
learn to exchange and listen to ideas,
be able to reformulate them without distorting them at a B1 level (clear and standard language/key points)

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

30 hours of classes, divided as follows:
>> 6 or 9 hours of face-to-face classes in Charleroi
>> 15 hours of live online classes (TEAMS/ZOOM)
>> 6 hours of regular assignments and tests, participation in projects (EUNICE...), forums, apps suggested by the teacher throughout the term

- structural exercises (grammar / vocabulary)
- texts related to computer science
- listening comprehension (audio and video)
- oral and written exercises
- use of IT tools (wiki, blogs, skype, e-learning platforms and sites) individually or in teams
The course will be conducted both face-to-face and online, and regular assignments and tests will form part of the continuous assessment

If the student passes the pre-course test, he/she gets dispensation from the said course. The mark given on the pre-course test will be converted to meet the level of the final examination/ evaluation, as productive skills cannot be extensively tested. 
Students will be tested on: 
- listening and reading skills
- knowledge and use of grammar and vocabulary
- writing skills (summarizing/giving one's opinion on a given topic)

100% of the overall mark will be distributed as follows: 
1) 50% given for assignment-based oral evaluation. To gain access to the oral examination, students must hand in their assignments.
2) 50% given for class-based grammar and vocab content as well as listening/reading comprehension exercises 
(*) HT : Hours of theory - HTPE : Hours of in-class exercices - HTPS : hours of practical work - HD : HMiscellaneous time - HR : Hours of remedial classes. - Per. (Period), Y=Year, Q1=1st term et Q2=2nd term
