Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
By the end of this class, students will be able to master the complex functions of computer-aided translation (CAT) tools, and to handle all the resources that can be integrated in these tools (translation memories, terminology databases, machine translation). They will be able to use parallel corpora to create translation memories, to generate electronic terminology glossaries thanks to lists of terms, and to use machine translation tools with a critical eye in the framework of various projects.
They will also be able to provide a detailed critical analysis of a translation into French and will be able to delect, to review and correct poor translations, both in terms of faithfulness to original source text and on syntax, lexicon, style and typography aspects.
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
Short theoretical sessions followed by practical demonstrations and hands-on tasks with a view to enabling students to master the contents seen during classes: familiarisation with CAT tools mechanisms, creation and alignment of corpora to create domain-specific translation memories, creation of term lists to be imported in a terminology management software, critical thinking about machine translation in the framework of various text types. Practical individual and group tasks aiming at creating contents, some of which will be used during the exam
Critical thinking development and poor translation review exercises, as well as specific syntax, punctuation and typography rules application exercises in French.
