Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of this course, students will have developed a better understanding of the construction of national accounts as well as the main macroeconomic indicators of a country according to the ESA 2010 standard. They will also be able to examine national accounts data based on tables and/or graphs.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

The objective of this teaching activity is to give students an historical overview of the evolution of national accounting, all in the context of Belgium's membership in the European System of Accounts (ESA). We will then continue with a description of the institutional units and sectors taken into account, the transactions considered (transactions in goods and services, distributive transactions, financial transactions), as well as the different accounts presented in national accounting in sequential order (production accounts, distribution and use of income accounts, capital accounts, financial accounts). Finally, students will master the definition and construction of the main aggregates, measures and tables used in national accounting (GDP, GNI, Input-Output Table (IOT), ...).
