Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Master specialist knowledge in the field of economic, political and social sciences in order to mobilise it on issues related to political, economic and social environments.
    • Master and appropriately mobilise highly specialised knowledge and methodological approaches within of economic, political and social sciences.
    • Assimilate political, economic and social environments.
  • Analyse concrete political, social and economic issues in a multidisciplinary way, identifying future societal changes.
    • Analyse a situation by critically selecting adapted methodological theories and approaches.
  • Develop innovative solutions/actions/policies/methodologies adapted to an institutional and social context of actors concerned in a process of change.
    • Develop and implement innovative economic and social policies and measure their potential impacts.
    • Innovate in the development of methodologies and tools for analysis and decision-making in economic, political and social sciences.
  • Be critical and have a general overview of the analysis of problems and implementation of actions in the economic, social and political fields.
    • Critically analyse the extent and limitations of actions implemented in the economic, social and political field.
    • Assess their practices and be able to question it.

Learning Outcomes of UE

The goal of this course is that students will improve their knowledge of the main social, environmental and economic challenges of our time, on sustainable development and on a systemic approach of development and the functioning of society. It is about leaving an approach by silo (monodisciplinary approach) to assess social, environmental and economic consequences of decisions and policies. It is also about learning new tools to understand the benefits and limits of these policy assessments.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

This course will cover the following topics:

Environmental context (planetary boundaries) and social context (inequalities within countries and between countries, multi-dimensionnal poverty) of sustainable development,
Advantages and limits of economics in a systemic analysis of sustainable development issues,
History, definitions and concepts of sustainable development,
Measure of sustainable development using indicators,
Regulatory context and reporting,
Circular economy,
Long term issues (economic growth, demography...),
Which policies for a sustainable development?
