Content of Learning Activity
This learning activity is given in parallel with the "Introduction to Structural Design (Part 1)" theory course, and will enable students to mobilize practical knowledge and skills related to the subject matter covered in the theory course.
Beyond its thematic objective, this learning activity also aims to gradually integrate the notion of "collective competence" into the student's creative practice, while enabling him to explore successively (and over a short period of time) the 4 phases of the CDIO (Concieve Design Implement Operate) approach.
The learning activity takes the form of an inter-team competition. The rules are provided by the teaching team. The aim is to imagine, design and then build a structure (1:1 scale, scale model... depending on the year) that meets requirements (loads to be supported in various places, vibratory excitation to be withstood... depending on the year) while complying with constraints (location of authorized supports on the ground, dimensions, type and length of materials supplied... depending on the year). At the end of the year, the structures are loaded onto the test bench, to determine the winning team.
Four learning highlights:
#Fablab: getting to grips with digital laser cutting and 3D printing machines
#Team: team building, cohesion and management
#LearningByDoing: imagining, designing, realizing
#EvidenceBasedEngineering: putting the workload on to establish the performance of each project
