Content of Learning Activity
The course includes the National and European legislative aspects regarding euthanasia conditions recommended for the various species of laboratory animals (Mammals, Birds, Reptiles, Amphibians and Fish).
Lethal anesthesia methods are described for these different groups. Autopsy procedures on rodent models, in agreement with GLP standards, are described explicitly (blood sampling, fixation procedures, tissue samples). The techniques of tissue processing for histological examination (fixation, dehydration, embedding, cutting, staining) are detailed. The management and elimination of residual biological waste is also covered in the course.
