Content of Learning Activity
The course will be divided into several complementary sections:
- Identification and characterization of the most common otological and visual pathologies: description of associated symptoms, familiarization with methods for examining sensory skills, interpretation of audiometric results for accurate diagnosis, exploration of treatment options (hearing aids, cochlear implants) and their benefits/limitations according to patient profiles.
- Consequences of sensory impairments on brain and cognitive development: neurobiological impact of sensory deprivation in children and adults, concepts of brain plasticity and cross-modal reorganization, effects on children's cognitive-motor and language development, adaptation of cognitive functions in adults.
- Remediation and support strategies: role of speech therapists and psychologists in language, cognitive, and psychological diagnosis, intervention approaches in children and adults, awareness of the importance of early intervention and parental guidance, adaptation of the environment to optimize learning and communication.
- Psychological implications of sensory impairments for patients and their families: impact of the diagnosis on patients and their families, management of accommodations, associated treatments and/or communication/remediation methods, impact on emotional development/functioning and family relationships.
