Content of Learning Activity
This course provides the foundations of evolutionary biology. It introduces students to the following concepts: the history of evolutionary science; heredity and genetic mixing; the concept of population; the Logistic Model; the genetic origin of intraspecific variation; atavism and vestigial structures; natural selection and adaptation; artificial selection; domestication syndrome; sexual selection; population genetics; genetic drift; emergence of sexuality; species concept; mechanisms of speciation; mechanisms of co-evolution; evolution of sociality; epigenetics; evolution during the Anthropocene; phenotypic plasticity.
