    Content of Learning Activity

One month internship (April) in Madagascar (maximum limit 8 students)
N.B.: This internship involves a 2-week or 1-month residential stay (preferred choice) in Toliara, in southwestern Madagascar. It is associated with a grant from ARES or UMONS, available only to students who have selected the 12 ECTS (1-month internship). All students must be able to swim effectively, and be able to cope with long journeys by plane (12 hours) and van (28 hours). Staying in a tropical country often involves compulsory vaccinations and appropriate medication (particularly anti-malaria), and students are advised to consult their GPs to check the potential health risks associated with their personal state of health. Once students have registered via their EAP, they will be contacted by G. Caulier to set up meetings to organize the internship.
-Discovery of ecosystems rich in biodiversity and highly endemic to southwestern Madagascar: intertidal environment, endobenthic fauna, mangrove, xerophytic forest,...

-Initiation to snorkeling, diving and underwater photography with the discovery of coral reefs sheltering a rich biodiversity.

-Visit of socio-village aquacultures (e.g. sea cucumber farm, crab farm and seaweed farm) mixing scientific challenge and engineering, preservation of natural biodiversity and sustainable development.

-Involvement in a scientific popularization project (UDEMA: Université des Enfants Malgaches). Pre-departure training in Mons.

-Involvement in the research projects of the teams on site
