Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Reflective practitioner skills.
    • Critically read the results of scientific research in education and didactics and draw inspiration from them for their teaching activities, all the while drawing on various disciplines in human sciences to analyse and act in professional situations.
    • Carry out, individually and with peers, a critical and rigorous observation and analysis of their own practices and the impact these have on pupils, in order to improve their teaching and develop the strategies and conditions for implementation to ensure effectiveness and equity.

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of this course, students will master the essential concepts of environmental microbiology, particularly field sampling.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

Field sampling (recovery of cells and environmental DNA) for various types of environments: rivers (water and sediments), soils, wastewater treatment plants, air. Symbiotic bacteria and biofilms will also be considered. Students will learn how to remove contaminants from DNA preparations (metals, humic acids), increase DNA concentration (GenomiPhi amplification), and quantify DNA (Nanodrop and Picogreen). Soil-specific biases will be considered. Students will learn how to isolate specific bacteria from soil using culture and enrichment methods. Quantitative PCR will be used to target specific genes in the samples.
