UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
UE aims to enable future teachers to develop a reflective, neutral and appropriate professional posture, being able to articulate institutional requirements (neutrality, ethics, efficiency, responsibility) with their personal values, in a concern for justice, respect for students and efficiency.
Several questions will be addressed, amongst others :
- what are the values and ethical principles underpinning the teaching profession?
- how to understand and apply the principle of neutrality in the context of the educational system of French-speaking Belgium ?
- what is a teacher's professional responsibility towards the pupils, the school, the educational system and society?
- what tensions may exist between the demands of efficiency and those of equity?
- how do we reconcile personal convictions, institutional constraints and professional ethics in the teaching profession?
