Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
Understand the basic principles of Dynamics (correlation between forces acting on a mechanical system and its motion).
To apply these principles, in a rigorous and rational modelling process, in the context of industrial or every day life examples (resonance, balancing, gyroscopic effects,...).
Strengthen the intuition with respect to problems involving the relation between forces and motion.
Understand the basic principles of material point dynamics and impulses.
Apply these principles, in a rigorous and rational modelling process, in order to solve problems involving these phenomena.
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
Kinetics of rigid body; d'Alembert's principle; general theorems of Dynamics; one or two degree of freedom vibrating systems: free or forced response, resonance, frequency response; Dynamics of rigid body: balancing, gyroscopic effects.
Material point dynamics and application to Kepler's laws and Foucault's pendulum. Impulses.
The additional learning activity is clearly a continuation. Namely, it demonstrates how the laws of Dynamics can be applied to explain natural phenomena.
Prior Experience
Trigonometry; planar and space geometry; Algebra: resolution of a set of linear equations, matrix calculus, eigenvalues and eigenvectors; differential calculus: resolution of differential equations, Laplace transform; Kinematics and Statics (force equilibrium and energetic methods) of Mechanical Systems composed of rigid bodies and material points.
Type(s) and mode(s) of Q1 UE assessment
Q1 UE Assessment Comments
The global mark for AAs I-MRDV-022 and I-MRDV-023 is distributed in this way: 20% for the exercise test, 15% for the workshops and 65% for the written examination:
The written examination lasts maximum 4 hours and consists of a theory part and an exercises part, each of them with a weight of about 50%.
For the exercise test and the written exam, students may have the formula reminder of the course.
For the theory, the students are allowed to consult their course notes during 30 minutes.
Type(s) and mode(s) of Q1 UE resit assessment (BAB1)
Q1 UE Resit Assessment Comments (BAB1)
Not applicable
Type(s) and mode(s) of Q3 UE assessment
Q3 UE Assessment Comments
The mark fully issues from a written examination which lasts maximum 4 hours and consists of a theory part (about 1/3 of the mark) and an exercises part (about 2/3 of the mark).
The terms and conditions are the same as for the written exam of first term.
