Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
Recognise the different type of numerical problems. Apply the correct numerical methods to solve those problems. Discuss the advantages, disadvantages and limitations of the various numercial methods. Understand and explain why those methods work. Recognise an ill posed problem. Recognise an ill conditionned problem. Implement the numercial methods in Matlab/Octave. Write numerical code on paper before implementing it in the computer.
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
Floating point representation. Systems of linear equations: direct and iterative methods. QR factorisation and least squares. Non-linear equations and systems of equations. Interpolation and approximation. Numerical integration. Differential equations with initial conditions. Differential equations with boundary conditions. Stability and conditioning.
