Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Implement an engineering approach dealing with a set problem taking into account technical, economic and environmental constraints
    • Understand the stages of an engineering approach
    • Identify and describe the problem to be solved and the functional need (of the project owner) to be met considering the state of technology
    • Identify and acquire the information and skills needed to solve the problem
  • Understand the theoretical and methodological fundamentals in arts, science, engineering and construction to solve problems involving these disciplines
    • Identify, describe and explain the basic principles of engineering sciences and construction
    • Understand laboratory techniques: testing, measuring, monitoring protocol, and security
  • Collaborate, work in a team
    • Interact effectively with other students to carry out collaborative projects.
    • Identify and appropriately implement the different ways of working in a group
  • Communicate in a structured way - visually, orally and in writing, in French and English - giving clear, accurate, and reasoned information
    • Argue to and persuade a project owner, teachers and a board orally, with visual aids and in writing
    • Use several methods of written and graphic communication: text, tables, equations, sketches, maps, graphs, etc.
    • Give an effective oral presentation, using presentation materials appropriately
    • Present analysis or experiment results in laboratory reports
  • Demonstrate thoroughness and independence throughout their studies
    • Identify the different fields and participants in architectural engineering
    • Demonstrate self-awareness, asses themself, and develop appropriate learning strategies.
    • Develop scientific and cultural curiosity and open-mindedness
    • Learn to use various resources made available to inform and train independently

Learning Outcomes of UE

Understanding the properties and uses of building materials from a technical and technological point of view;Assessment of the use of building materials in a given context, including with regard to their environmental impact.Interpretation of technical documents and available standards.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

Understand building materials from a technical and technological point of view; Objectively judge the use of building materials in a given context, including their environmental impact; Interpret available technical documents and standards.

Notion of materials: Definition, history; Classification; Behavior and properties; General properties of material families. Life cycle of materials: Natural resources; Processing; Recycling. Materials selection: Role of materials in design; Design procedure; Selection strategy; Case studies.

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q2 UE assessment

  • Written examination - Face-to-face
  • Oral examination - Face-to-face
  • Oral presentation - Face-to-face
  • Practical exam - Face-to-face

Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q2 UE assessment

I-GCMS-006 - 60 %
I-META-106 - 40 %

To pass the UE, students must obtain a mark of 8/20 for each AA. If the mark for an AA is less than 8/20, the mark for the UE is the mark for that AA (the lower mark of the two AAs).

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q3 UE assessment

  • Written examination - Face-to-face
  • Oral examination - Face-to-face
