Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Implement an engineering approach dealing with a set problem taking into account technical, economic and environmental constraints
    • Understand the stages of an engineering approach
    • Design, evaluate and optimise solutions addressing the problem
    • Implement a chosen solution in the form of a drawing, a schema, a plan, a model, a prototype, software and/or digital model
    • Communicate the approach, results and prospects to a client or a board
    • Identify and acquire the information and skills needed to solve the problem
  • Understand the theoretical and methodological fundamentals in science and engineering to solve problems involving these disciplines
    • Select and rigorously apply knowledge, tools and methods in sciences and engineering to solve problems involving these disciplines
  • Understand the fundamentals of project management to carry out a set project, individually or as part of a team
    • Ensure a project is tracked and documented according to its specifications
    • Adapt the approach and achievements taking into account the feedback received
    • Respect deadlines and timescales
  • Collaborate, work in a team
    • Interact effectively with other students to carry out collaborative projects.
    • Identify and appropriately implement the different ways of working in a group
  • Communicate in a structured way - both orally and in writing, in French and English - giving clear, accurate, reasoned information
    • Argue to and persuade customers, teachers and a board both orally and in writing
    • Use several methods of written and graphic communication: text, tables, equations, sketches, maps, graphs, etc.
    • Give an effective oral presentation, using presentation materials appropriately
  • Demonstrate thoroughness and independence throughout their studies
    • Develop their scientific curiosity and open-mindedness
    • Learn to use various resources made available to inform and train independently

Learning Outcomes of UE

Act as an engineer to propose a practical solution to a multidisciplinary and integrated problem in the field of engineering sciences, work efficiently as part of a team, respect deadlines, organise the time in the framework of a long term project, communicate project results

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

Objectives
* Studying a multidisiplinary problem linked with the learning modules proposed in BAB3. Students work by groups and choose a topic in a project list supplied by Poly(tech Mons and ULB academics (i.e. the project supervisors)
* Typical deliverables:
Hardware or software prototype, feasibility study, etc.
Written report (a final report and an intermediate one)
Oral presentation

Organisation
* Meetings with project supervisors on demand
* Mandatory Formal meetings scheduled during the semester with a Project Advisory Board (3 to 4 checkpoints in general). Non-justified absence automatically leads to exclusion from the final evaluation. These intermediate evaluations are not graded and only serve as follow-up points and feedback moments.
* Intermediate report submitted via Moodle mid-semester. This report is not evaluated and is formative, but the Advisory Board may apply a penalty on the final marks if that intermediate report is not prepared seriously.

I-POLY-013The valuation comprises three components:
* A written report, to submit via Moodle in electronic format by the deadline specified at the beginning of the semester (25% of the total marks)
* An oral defense (power point presentation with live demonstration of the developens d prototype if relevant), organised during the June session (25% of the total marks)
* Appreciation by the supervisors of the quality and rigour of the students' work tduring the semester, as well as the quality of the deliverables (50% of the total marks)

If the marks for one of the three components is less than or equal to 08/20, the Project Advisory Board may apply that insufficient note to the whole Learning Activity, with a possible re-evaluation (of the whole activity or of the components to be improved, to be decided by the Advisory Board) during the Q3.

I-POLY-013The project may be evaluated again during the Q3 of the same Academic year, if proposed by the Project Advisory Board at the end of Q2, upon revision of the presentation and/or the written report and-or the project prototype.
The Q3 evaluation will concern the modified deliverables and the accomplished work, following the same principles than in Q2.
If, by the the end of Q2, the Project Advosory Board proposes the preparation of a completely new project, the latter will be realized during the following Academic year.
