Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Implement an engineering approach dealing with a set problem taking into account technical, economic and environmental constraints
    • Understand the stages of an engineering approach
    • Identify and acquire the information and skills needed to solve the problem
  • Understand the theoretical and methodological fundamentals in science and engineering to solve problems involving these disciplines
    • Identify, describe and explain basic scientific and mathematical principles
    • Identify, describe and explain the basic principles of engineering particularly in their specialising field
    • Understand laboratory techniques: testing, measuring, monitoring protocol, and security
    • Select and rigorously apply knowledge, tools and methods in sciences and engineering to solve problems involving these disciplines
  • Collaborate, work in a team
    • Interact effectively with other students to carry out collaborative projects.
  • Communicate in a structured way - both orally and in writing, in French and English - giving clear, accurate, reasoned information
    • Argue to and persuade customers, teachers and a board both orally and in writing
    • Present analysis or experiment results in laboratory reports

Learning Outcomes of UE

For AA I-MRDV-103 :

To build and linearise, in a systematic way, the equations governing the motion of a mechanical system, by means of analytical or numerical tools.
To derive the modal properties, the free or forced response, in the frequency and time domains.
To develop the spirit of criticism by developing, on the same application, theoretical, numerical and experimental aspects.
To get more autonomous while developing the ability to work in a group (laboratory by groups of two/three students with global objectives).

For AA I-FLMA-102 :

Not applicable.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

For AA I-MRDV-103 :

Discrete mechanical systems; construction and linearisation of equations of motion; stability; free or forced response; eigen frequencies and mode shapes; eigen frequencies and mode shapes; vibration measurement: sensors, acquisition of frequency response functions.

For AA I-FLMA-102 :

Not applicable.

Prior Experience

For AA I-MRDV-103 :

Algebra; differential calculus; numerical methods; kinematics, statics and dynamics of mechanical systems.

For AA I-FLMA-102 :

Algebra; differential calculus; numerical methods; thermodynamics.

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q1 UE assessment

  • Written examination - Face-to-face
  • Production (written work, report, essay, collection, product, etc.) - To be submitted online

Q1 UE Assessment Comments

The evaluation of this UE uses the global note method. Each AA is evaluated on its own, independently. The evaluation modalities are listed in the ECTS description of each AA.

Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q1 UE assessment

Global evaluation : 50% AA I-FLMA-102, 50% I-MRDV-103. You should obtain at least 8/20 in each AA, otherwise the global note is set to the minimum of both notes.

Example 1 : You obtain 16/20 in I-FLMA-102 and 8/20 in I-MRDV-103, you respect the conditions and the global note is set to 12/20.

Example 2 : You obtain 16/20 in I-FLMA-102 and 7,5/20 in I-MRDV-103, you do not respect the conditions and the global note is maxed out to 7,5/20.

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q1 UE resit assessment (BAB1)

  • N/A - Néant

Q1 UE Resit Assessment Comments (BAB1)

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q3 UE assessment

  • Written examination - Face-to-face
  • Production (written work, report, essay, collection, product, etc.) - To be submitted online

Q3 UE Assessment Comments

The evaluation of this UE uses the global note method. Each AA is evaluated on its own, independently. The evaluation modalities are listed in the ECTS description of each AA. These modalities may differ from those from the Q1.

Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q3 UE assessment

The evaluation method remains identical.
