Programme component

Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Implement an engineering approach dealing with a set problem taking into account technical, economic and environmental constraints
    • Design, evaluate and optimise solutions addressing the problem
    • Implement a chosen solution in the form of a drawing, a schema, a plan, a model, a prototype, software and/or digital model
    • Identify and acquire the information and skills needed to solve the problem
  • Understand the fundamentals of project management to carry out a set project, individually or as part of a team
    • Respect deadlines and timescales
  • Collaborate, work in a team
    • Interact effectively with other students to carry out collaborative projects.
    • Analyse personal performance within a group
    • Identify and appropriately implement the different ways of working in a group
  • Communicate in a structured way - both orally and in writing, in French and English - giving clear, accurate, reasoned information
    • Argue to and persuade customers, teachers and a board both orally and in writing
    • Use several methods of written and graphic communication: text, tables, equations, sketches, maps, graphs, etc.
    • Present analysis or experiment results in laboratory reports
  • Demonstrate thoroughness and independence throughout their studies
    • Demonstrate self-awareness, asses themself, and develop appropriate learning strategies.
    • Develop their scientific curiosity and open-mindedness

Learning Outcomes of UE

Understanding the essential minerals and rocks that form the Earth's crust and constitute georesources
Knowing and understanding the processes and environments of formation of these geological materials
Being able to place geological materials and processes within the context of Earth's geodynamics
Understanding the different dating methods in geology (relative and absolute methods - radiometric dating)
Understanding sedimentary environments and their relationship with present-day environments
Know basics of paleontology and stratigraphy. Be able of describing and identifying fossil specimens and interpreting them in terms of environment and geological age. Be able of analyzing how geological formations are organized in space and time
Develop the ability to extract three-dimensional geometry of geological objects and structures from two-dimensional surfaces (maps and cross-sections)
Reconstruct the chronology of geological processes through the analysis of geological maps and cross-sections

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
