Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
Position themselves as providers of technical and scientific expertise;
Carry out scientific or technological activities within the scope of engineering practice;
Manage and lead an engineering project or assignment within a company;
Apply and develop their professional, personal, and interpersonal skills (soft skills);
Act as responsible and autonomous professionals.
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
The internship must consist of a full-time placement of at least 8 weeks (equivalent to 40 working days), to be completed between the first and second year of the Master’s programme.
An extended internship of 12 weeks (equivalent to 60 working days) may be validated through the “Work Placement - Additional Period” module (see course unit UI-M2-IRELEC-591-M), which must be selected together with the “Work Placement” module.
The internship must contribute to the completion of a concrete task defined by the host company, in consultation with an academic supervisor. It should reflect the type of assignments typically entrusted to a junior engineer, depending on their area of specialization. The internship may be carried out in companies, consulting firms, research centres, public institutions, etc., either in Belgium or abroad.
Further details regarding the content and expectations of the internship are available on the internship intranet portal.

| I-GREL-062 | The acquisition of the skills outlined in the “Learning Outcomes” section is assessed by the industrial supervisor, the academic internship advisor, one or more rapporteurs appointed by the Programme Committee responsible for the student, and an academic jury. The evaluation is based on four criteria: 1. written report, 2. assessment by the industrial supervisor, 3. oral presentation before an academic jury, 4. personal reflection. Each criterion is graded qualitatively (from A to F) according to a defined scale: * A – Excellent work: outstanding performance with only minor errors. The student exceeded expectations in most tasks. * B – Very good work: above-average performance with a limited number of minor errors. The student exceeded expectations in several tasks. * C – Good work: satisfactory performance with some errors. The student met expectations in most tasks. * D – Satisfactory work: acceptable performance with notable errors and shortcomings. The student met expectations in several tasks. * E – Sufficient work: meets minimum requirements; corrections needed do not require a complete revision. The student met the minimum expectations. * F – Insufficient work: serious errors or omissions requiring substantial revision or additional work. The student did not meet expectations in most tasks. If an F grade is awarded for any of the four criteria, the overall grade may be F and the internship will not be validated. The expected content of these deliverables is specified by the Electrical Engineering Programme Committee. |

| I-GREL-062 | If the deliberation jury recommends it following the Q1 evaluation, the internship may be reassessed during Q3 of the current academic year, based on revised deliverables (without completing a new internship). The Q3 evaluation will focus on the revised deliverables, using the same assessment criteria as in Q1. If, at the end of Q1, the jury requires the completion of a new internship, it will be assessed during the following academic year. |
