Learning Outcomes of UE

The refresher course is intended for students who find themselves, at the end of the January exam session (session Q1), with a high failure rate. It consists in helping students who are forced to continue their year by choosing a lighter course.  The objective of the refresher course is twofold: on the one hand, it is a revision of the subject matter aiming at passing the general human biology exam (sessions Q2 and/or Q3) and, on the other hand, it allows students wishing to register in the 1st year of medicine to actively prepare for the compulsory entrance exam. The course is organized in 5 theoretical parts to answer the various prerequisites established for biology (cfr Prerequisites for the course and the medical entrance exam) and each theoretical part is followed by a revision session of the subject (exercises in the form of MCQ) during which an explicit correction is proposed.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

The course is organized into 5 theoretical parts to meet the different prerequisites established for biology (see Prerequisites of the course and the competition in medicine): 1) Organization of living organisms, Basics of biochemistry, Classes of macromolecules and Cellular metabolism 2) Theory and cell types, Cellular ultrastructure, Concept of membrane and membrane transport 3) Cell Cycle, Replication, Gene Expression 4) Genetics 4) Diversity/evolution, Ecology Each theoretical part is followed by a review session of the subject (exercises in the form of MCQs) and an explicit correction is proposed.
