Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand, describe, analyse and prioritise biological phenomena
    • Understand basic scientific knowledge and be able to use it
    • Understand the expression of biological realities in absolute or relative terms, the orders of magnitude, proportions and probability
    • Perceive spatial distribution, and understand two- and three-dimensional representations and interconvert them
  • Control the molecular, morphological and functional approaches of normal and pathological conditions
    • Integrate concepts from different approaches/disciplines in a complex biomedical problem
    • Explain how molecular, morphological and functional modifications constitute pathological states and vice versa
  • Develop reasoning skills
    • Understand and apply the basic principles of reasoning (obtaining data, analysis, synthesis, comparison, the rule of three, syllogism, analogy, Boolean logic, etc.)
    • Work with efficiency / accuracy / precision
  • Demonstrate developed interpersonal skills
    • Use a rich vocabulary linking concepts and words accurately
  • Manage their studies
    • Be open to research and demonstrate scientific curiosity

Learning Outcomes of UE

The major aims of this course are to develop an understanding of the human body at tissue and organ levels. The structural orientation is of importance since it allows the integration with other course such as physiology, immunology, biochemistry or cell biology. The course also aims to indicate the clinical importance of the subject and the relevance of histology in general biology. Finally, this course is a prerequisite to the study of Histopathology.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

General histology involves the study of cells and tissue structures in the human body using light and electron microscopy. General histology : Structure of the cell, epithelial cells, contractile cells, connective tissue, nervous tissue, blood cells and bone marrow.

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q1 UE assessment

  • Written examination - Face-to-face

Q1 UE Assessment Comments

The purpose of the evaluation is to test the student's knowledge of the theoretical notions of Histology delivered during the course. The practical exam will assess whether the student is able to identify and interpret the different histological tissues seen during practical work in both optical and electronic microscopy.

The written theory exam accounts for 60%, written practical exam  accounts for 40% of the global note. The presence to practical work during the year is mandatory.
