Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand, describe, analyse and prioritise biological phenomena
    • Understand basic scientific knowledge and be able to use it
    • Understand the expression of biological realities in absolute or relative terms, the orders of magnitude, proportions and probability
    • Perceive spatial distribution, and understand two- and three-dimensional representations and interconvert them
  • Control the molecular, morphological and functional approaches of normal and pathological conditions
    • Integrate concepts from different approaches/disciplines in a complex biomedical problem
    • Explain how molecular, morphological and functional modifications constitute pathological states and vice versa
  • Develop reasoning skills
    • Work with efficiency / accuracy / precision
    • Present a hypothesis and hypothetical-deductive reasoning
  • Demonstrate developed interpersonal skills
    • Use a rich vocabulary linking concepts and words accurately

Learning Outcomes of UE

The major aims of this course are to develop an understanding of the human body at tissue and organ levels. The structural orientation is of importance since it allows the integration with other course such as physiology, immunology, biochemistry or cell biology. The course also aims to indicate the clinical importance of the subject and the relevance of histology in general biology. Finally, this course is a prerequisite to the study of Histopathology. The course is illustrated by practical works in light microscopy.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

Special histology covers the structure of organ systems: Heart and circulatory systems, Immune system, digestive tract, Respiratory system, Skin, Endocrine system and Urogenital systems. The course is illustrated by practical works in light microscopy.

Prior Experience

Course of general histology ( co-requiste)

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q2 UE assessment

  • Written examination - Face-to-face
  • Oral examination - Face-to-face

Q2 UE Assessment Comments

The purpose of the evaluation is to test the student's knowledge of the theoretical notions of special Histology delivered during the course. The practical exam will assess whether the student is able to identify and interpret the morphology of the different organs observed during practical work in light microscopy.

The written theory exam accounts for 60%, oral practical exam  accounts for 40% of the global note. The presence to practical works during the year is mandatory.

Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q2 UE assessment

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q3 UE assessment

  • Written examination - Face-to-face
  • Oral examination - Face-to-face
