Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcomes of UE

The student must understand the pathophysiology of different diseases and the utility of assessing biological markers.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

The main objective of this activity is to improve the knowledge of the different fields of clinical biology. This activity is composed of a theoretical part (60h) and a practical laboratory work (50h). The theoretical part Q1 (27h) will cover the following topics:
1. Pathological processes
2. Basic principle in laboratory medicine
3. Biomarkers of Alzheimer disease
4. Iron metabolism and hemoglobinopathies
5. Hepatic and pancreatic function
6. Metabolism of carbohydrates
7. lntestinal function
The course of microbiology (15 hours) is also part of this UE

Prior Experience

Basic principles in biochemistry and microbiology must be understood.

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q1 UE assessment

  • Written examination - Face-to-face

Q1 UE Assessment Comments

Grading System:
- If the marks for the Microbiology and Medical Biochemistry-Part 1 courses are both above or below 10/20
The final mark is weighted as follows: Microbiology 1/3 and Medical Biochemistry-Part 1 2/3.
- If one of the marks for the microbiology or medical biochemistry-part 1 course is less than 10/20
A final mark will be awarded which will only include the mark below 10/20. Only the examination for which the mark is less than 10/20 will have to be retaken.
