Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcomes of UE

The special pharmacology course is devoted to the study of molecules from the main therapeutic classes, following the order presented in the Belgian "commented repertory of medicines" (CBIP). Particular emphasis will be placed on studying the mechanism of action of drugs and their therapeutic role, by establishing a direct correlation with the principles of general pharmacology and physiology. This approach will be systematically aligned with the recommendations of Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) guidelines. In addition, close attention will be paid to the various clinical aspects of drugs, including their indications, potential side effects, contraindications and relevant drug interactions. This pedagogical approach aims to provide students with a holistic and integrated understanding of the use of medicines in clinical practice, emphasising the importance of the judicious application of pharmacological knowledge in the context of patient care

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

The course is divided into two AA: Special Pharmacology (Part 1) taught by Prof. A. Nachtergael and Special Pharmacology (Part 2) taught by Prof. S. Patris.

Prior Experience

General pharmacology, physiology, biochemistry

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q2 UE assessment

  • Written examination - Face-to-face

Q2 UE Assessment Comments

See AA

Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q2 UE assessment

If the mark for each AA is greater than or equal to 10/20, the mark for the UE is an average of the marks for each AA weighted by the number of hours as follows:
Special Pharmacology (Part 1): 60%.
Special Pharmacology (Part 2): 40%.
If at least one AA has a mark of less than 10/20, the UE mark will be the mark of the lowest AA.

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q3 UE assessment

  • Written examination - Face-to-face
