Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
Performing biochemical and haematological tests, explaining the methodological principles used, interpreting the results in the context of clinical cases, understanding the material of the medical biochemistry course
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
Biochemical assays (porphobilinogen, delta-amino levulinic acid, iron, transferrin, haemoglobin, total protein) in various biological matrices and interpretation of clinical cases.
Prior Experience
Basic principles in biochemistry quantification (colorimetry, immunoturbidimetry) must be understood
Type(s) and mode(s) of Q1 UE assessment
Q1 UE Assessment Comments
Biochemical assays (porphobilinogen, delta-amino levulinic acid, iron, transferrin, haemoglobin, total protein) in various biological matrices and interpretation of clinical cases.
Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q1 UE assessment
Marking system for microbiology practical work (10 hrs) and medical biochemistry part 1 practical work (50 hrs)
- If the marks for the microbiology and medical biochemistry part 1 practical courses are both higher or lower than 10/20
The final mark is weighted as follows: microbiology 1/6 and medical biochemistry part 1 5/6.
- If one of the marks for the microbiology or medical biochemistry part 1 practical is less than 10/20
A final mark will be awarded which will only include the mark below 10/20. Only the practical work for which the mark is less than 10/20 will have to be retaken.
