Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the theoretical and methodological fundamentals in psychology, educational sciences and language sciences to analyse a particular situation involving speech therapy
    • Identify and explain the concepts, principles, and models of basic theoretical approaches in psychology, educational sciences and language sciences and their applications
    • Identify and describe the biological, medical and socio-cultural foundations of human behaviour
    • Identify and describe the specific characteristics of psychology, educational sciences and language sciences, and their relationship to other contributory disciplines
  • Understand the fundamentals of speech therapy interventions
    • Explain the concepts and relationships of theoretical models of intervention adopt a critical stance regarding these models.
  • Provide clear, accurate, and reasoned information
    • Provide information (both orally and in writing) regarding the fields of psychology, educational sciences and language sciences in an intelligible manner, with a good command of communication techniques.

Learning Outcomes of UE

By the end of the course, students will have acquired the theoretical foundations necessary to understand the mechanisms involved in reading and writing, as well as their developmental aspects. They will also be familiar with the evolution of theoretical models of written language and current data on the brain networks involved in the processes of reading and writing, along with an overview of the main developmental and acquired disorders.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

The course will be divided into several chapters:

- The mechanisms associated with reading and writing and their developmental aspects: visual processing, written word recognition, reading comprehension, spelling skills
- The main theoretical models associated with understanding the mechanisms of reading and writing
- The neurological basis of reading/writing 
- Written language disorders: overview of the main developmental and acquired reading/writing disorders
