Learning Outcomes of UE

This course aims to introduce students to the principles of speech and language therapy intervention based on an Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) approach, while providing them with field experience through the completion of an observation internship.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

The course will consist of two main activities:
- Lectures, during which the EBP approach will be presented. This approach formalizes the active pursuit of high-quality care by drawing on evidence from recent scientific literature, the clinician’s experience, the patient’s needs, and the specific context of the intervention. An overview of different approaches, methods, and rehabilitation techniques for the various components of language, taking into account the specificities of associated pathologies, will also be provided.
- An observation internship, offering students a first immersion in the clinical setting. This short internship will take the form of passive participation (observation) in therapy sessions conducted by a speech and language therapist with either a child or an adult patient. During these observations, students will be required to take notes, analyze the practices observed, and synthesize their main findings by linking them to the literature. These syntheses will then be presented orally to the entire class, thereby enabling students to share and compare observations from different placements. The presentations will also provide an opportunity for exchange and discussion around speech and language therapy practices.
