Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • In the field of biological sciences and particularly in the field of the biology of organisms and ecology, possess highly specialised and integrated knowledge and a wide range of skills adding to those covered in the Bachelor's programme in biological sciences.
  • Conduct extensive research and development projects related to biological sciences, in the biology of organisms and ecology.
    • Apply, mobilise, articulate and promote the knowledge and skills acquired in order to help lead and complete a project.
    • Contributing to a project by mastering its complexity and taking into account the objectives, allocated resources and constraints that characterise it.
    • Show initiative and be able to work independently and in teams.
  • Manage and lead research, development and innovation projects.
    • Understand unprecedented problems in biological sciences, and more specifically in the biology of organisms, ecology and its applications.
    • Organise and lead a research, development or innovation project to completion.
    • Methodically research valid scientific information, critically analyse, propose and argue potentially innovative solutions to targeted problems.
  • Develop and integrate a high degree of autonomy.
    • Pursue further training and develop new skills independently.
    • Develop and integrate a high degree of autonomy to evolve in new contexts.
  • Apply scientific methodology.
    • Critically reflect on the impact of their discipline in general, and on the contribution to projects.
    • Demonstrate thoroughness, independence, creativity, intellectual honesty, and ethical values.

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of the internship (external or internal to the University of Mons), the students will be able to integrate into a new research environment and to apprehend new approaches, experimental techniques and knowledge in the field of biology. Students will be able to apply the knowledge acquired during their university studies in biology. Students will be able to comply with the UMONS Faculty of Science internship agreement and the specific clauses of the internship.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

At the end of the internship in an institution outside the Université de Mons, students will be able to integrate into a professional environment and collaborate with the various parties involved in a real project. Students will be able to apply the knowledge acquired during their university studies in biology to one or more concrete project cases. Students will be able to comply with the UMONS Faculty of Science internship agreement, as well as with specific internship clauses.

The internship empowers the Master's student, who can actively choose a research internship in different types of units (academic, private enterprise, NGOs, etc.) under the supervision of an internal and external promoter chosen by the student according to the internship theme. Some UMONS teaching staff already have international links that could potentially lead to internships.

Application of biology knowledge; internship; teamwork and presentation of the stay and the work carried out.

==>document to be completed by each trainee on a Google doc each year, posted on the moodle link above.

N.B.: all students must have their internship agreement + risk analysis signed by all parties before the start of the internship.
