Learning Outcomes of UE

The purpose of this course is to provide information on the practice of light microscopy and the preparation of cells and tissues for microscopic examination, with emphasis on immunohistochemistry and morphometry.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

The first part of the course is concerned with instrumentation (optical microscope) and the methods used to obtain informative images. The second part is devoted to traditional preparatory techniques including fixation, sectioning and staining, as well as histochemistry. The third section covers the various aspects of immunohisochemistry such as fixation and tissue preparation, antigen retrieval techniques, and multiple immunostaining. The last section is an introduction to computer assisted-morphometry applied to histological sections.
