Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Use lexicographical resources and reference materials to lead linguistic mediation activities individually or as part of a team (professional skills)
    • Reformulate, summarise, translate or interpret a document of general interest written or presented orally in a foreign language into French
  • Conduct relevant research and report on it in a critical manner (cognitive skills)
    • Conduct targeted and reasoned documentary research in both the core language and the foreign languages studied
    • Give a critique of the studied literature

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of the 3rd block, students will be able to:
- broadly comprehend a text or a simple speech in the foreign language;
- highlight their structure and logical links so as to be able to follow the line of argument developed by the speaker;
- render them in correct French under the form of a short summary or full translation;
- render them in a communicative way at appropriate speed.    

They will be able to:
- bring out the logical structure of a general text, written in the foreign language;
- render the meaning of this text in correct French;
- advisedly use dictionaries and reference documents.

Basic principles and techniques of sight translation and consecutive interpretation.
Introduction to oral translation of a written text or a short speech.
Written translation of informative and pragmatic texts.
Texts and speeches accessible with a command of the foreign language at the B2+ level of the CEFR.

The texts translated in class must be printed out by the student before the course.
The texts translated in class will be between 350 and 400 words (one A4 page).
