Prérequis

Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages (language skills)
    • Use French perfectly in a variety of non-technical situations, both orally and in writing
    • Understand, reformulate and summarise documents and presentations, in French, on various topics written by experts, including those related to current affairs
    • Communicate easily and adequately, in both selected foreign languages, at a minimum level of B2 in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • Understand and integrate cultural similarities and differences (cultural and intercultural skills)
    • Demonstrate real knowledge of the cultures of the studied languages
    • Identify cultural differences and talk about them
    • Develop knowledge in various fields, in particular those aimed at by translation activities
  • Use everyday technology (technological skills)
    • Use standard office software tools and editorial assistance effectively
  • Use lexicographical resources and reference materials to lead linguistic mediation activities individually or as part of a team (professional skills)
    • Use printed or electronic dictionaries and reference materials appropriately
    • Reformulate, summarise, translate or interpret a document of general interest written or presented orally in a foreign language into French
    • Carry out, alone or in groups, activities or projects involving critical analysis
  • Conduct relevant research and report on it in a critical manner (cognitive skills)
    • Conduct targeted and reasoned documentary research in both the core language and the foreign languages studied
    • Assess the relevance and reliability of documentary sources used

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of the 3rd block, students will be able to:
- broadly comprehend a text or a simple speech in Chinese;
- highlight their structure and logical links so as to be able to follow the line of argument developed by the speaker;
- render them in correct French under the form of a short summary or full translation;
- render them in a communicative way at appropriate speed;
- advisedly use dictionaries and reference documents.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

Basic principles and techniques of sight translation and consecutive interpretation.
Introduction to oral translation of written texts or short speeches into French, accessible with a command of Chinese at the B2 level of the CEFR.
Written translation of informative and pragmatic texts into French, accessible with a command of Chinese at the B2 level of the CEFR.

— 70% for correctness with regard to the Chinese original text;
— 30% for fluency in oral French.
Listening and reading comprehension questions (MCQs) will also be asked, giving access to a bonus point.
A production with five or more serious errors in French grammar will automatically receive a score of 6/20.
Passing the continuous assessment exercises may lead to exemption from the final exam.

Regular attendance is required. If the number of unjustified absences exceeds 30% of the total number of classes, the student will not be allowed to take part in the end-of-term exam and will automatically receive a 0/20 grade for the exam.
T-CHIN-403Examination scored on 20 points based on the MQM model (Multidimensional Quality Metrics) and three criteria: accuracy and logic, quality of the target language, and consistency with the translation project.
Direct scoring to 6/20 after five French spelling or grammar mistakes.
Regular attendance is required. If the number of unjustified absences exceeds 30% of the total number of classes, the student will not be allowed to take part in the end-of-term exam and will automatically receive a 0/20 grade for the exam.
